On Thursday, November 23rd, 2016 Mrs. Price and Ms. Hostler got their students together and made one big salad with the lettuce from their tower gardens. Students from both classes brought in sliced vegetables so students were able to enjoy a make your own salad bar. Student Maddox Packard rated the salad a 9 on a scale of 1-10.

Mrs. Hostler gives an interview on her tower garden.

Q: What are the towers called?

A: Tower Gardens.

Q: Why did they decide to get the towers?

A: We have one in our room because we learn about plants in grade 4. Mr. Dempster paid for the towers.

Q: What are the benefits?

A: Fresh vegetables are an important part of a healthy and balanced diet. The tower gardens use special lights so plants don’t require sunlight to grow so plants can be grown during the winter.

Q: How do they work?

A: Water is pulled to the top of the tower then runs down giving the plants nutrients and water. The plants do not need soil to grow because of the nutrients in the water. Once a week we refill the water tank and put nutrients in.
